Artistic Statement

For me, theatre is about connection. As an actor, I love the opportunity to connect with a character and discover who they are. One of the most exciting parts of acting is becoming someone I could never be in everyday life. Every character, no matter how big or small, has a story to tell. Whether I am playing a talking robot or a talking parrot, I believe every role has value and deserves the same commitment. I believe a strong actor is someone who can become something they are not by creating a new identity rather than simply pretending to be a character. My acting style changes depending on what each production needs, whether that means working naturally, leaning into comedy, or exploring something more experimental. Ultimately, I want audiences to leave feeling entertained but also changed in some way—to laugh, think, feel, or see something from a different perspective.

Directing allows me to approach storytelling from a different perspective. I direct because I want to tell stories that entertain people while also giving them something to think about. I believe a director should adapt their approach to what a particular show needs rather than forcing every production into one specific style. My experiences in acting, directing, costume design, lighting design, and technical theatre have taught me that a production is made up of many different parts, and all of those parts should work together to serve the story. When I direct, I believe actors need to have a genuine connection to their characters. An actor cannot be fully vulnerable onstage if they do not feel comfortable exploring, making mistakes, and taking risks. Because of this, I want my rehearsal rooms to be safe, open, and collaborative, where actors feel comfortable making choices and trying something new. I believe having a good time in rehearsal does not take away from professionalism; instead, it can create the trust needed to do meaningful work.

Ultimately, I want to be an artist who tells stories with purpose. Whether I am acting, directing, or working behind the scenes, I want to contribute to theatre that connects people, entertains them, and leaves them with something to carry with them after the show ends. I want every character, production, and story I work on to have a reason to be there, and I want to give each one everything I can.
